To some people, the extra mile isn’t extra. Their understanding of other’s needs drives them to work as hard for another’s goals as they would for their own. While growing up in South Africa, Michele Smith learned that understanding the needs and situations of others is the only way to truly make a positive difference in the lives of those around you, and that simple lesson has turned into a personal philosophy.
As a young girl, Michele traveled all over South Africa participating in equestrian events such as show jumping. Her mother and father always accompanied her and taught her that while it’s okay to want to be the best, it’s always more important to simply to do your best and keep a winning attitude. Michele learned that winning is more than a desire, it’s a goal that takes hard work and dedication.
Michele also knew that she wanted to see more than just South Africa. She wanted to experience other countries and cultures, and see how other people lived. She earned a degree in international cooking and took that to Germany, where she not only earned a degree in pastries, but spent time exploring all of Europe. After returning to South Africa to run a pastry shop with her mom, Michele continued her travels through Europe, but her dream was fulfilled when she was finally able to come to America. Little did she know just how much that trip would affect her future. After a couple of years here she met her husband, Jack. She not only met her husband as a result of her travels, but also discovered the perfect place to call home: North San Luis Obispo County.
Michele credits her mother for inspiring her can-do philosophy, but her mother also inspired Michele to help others come home to North San Luis Obispo County. Michele often saw how her mother-one of the top real estate professionals in South Africa-took others people’s real estate needs to heart and did what she could to help them achieve their goals. And the people Michele works with-as one of the top real estate professionals in the county-can see that she has adopted her mother’s philosophy of helping people buy or sell their homes.
Specializing in residential, ranch homes and country estates, Michele’s clients know that she’s just as dedicated to their goals as they are, and can adapt to their individual situation. While she enjoys tackling the professional challenges to meet buyer’s and seller’s needs, Michele knows that it’s important to remember that some people have greater challenges to overcome. That’s why she donates a portion of each commission to the Children’s Miracle Network and Race for a cure.
Michele’s love of the area is what makes her an invaluable resource for people on the move in North San Luis Obispo County. She and her husband, Jack, enjoy spending time boating and exploring the countryside when they visit her family in South Africa.
When people first meet Michele Smith, they’re not only drawn to her warm smile, but her lovely accent. Michele grew up in South Africa, and knows people have a lot of questions about what life is like there. Bus as Michele answers their questions, they see more than just how much Michele cares about South Africa. They see that growing up there taught Michele just how important listening is to understanding an individual’s situation.
